Okay unpopular opinion coming up – brace yourselves – I am not a fan of the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. Before you shoot me down and hate me, let me explain why. I don’t hate everything about this concealer, just some things. Overall, I think I just have a love-hate relationship with this product.
Let’s start with the good. This concealer has been a cult favourite for such a long time now so naturally, I had to try it. My shade is Custard, although Ginger would probably be fine on my skin tone too. I think NARS offers a great shade range that is inclusive of nearly all skin tones, which is great. Custard is a beautiful shade itself.
The concealer is pretty thick, but not too thick and goopy. It has a smooth finish and pretty good coverage, definitely buildable to full, but building it up does run the risk of it looking cakey. So what do I like this concealer for? Well because it has such good coverage and it blends out so well, I really like to use it to spot conceal any blemishes I have. It covers them well and doesn’t fade much throughout the day especially if I set the area. For spot concealing, it is my favourite and go to concealer – it covers EVERYTHING. The consistency is perfect for it and it ends up blending in so well it just looks like skin.
Okay, so now onto what I don’t like about this concealer. My only beef with this is that the formula is SO DRYING. I have oily skin, but my under eyes are unfortunately the slightest bit dry with texture and fine lines. I know, it sucks. Whilst the concealer does a good job at covering and dark circles – because the formula is so dry – it ends up look cakey, dry and it settles into fine lines causing them to be exaggerated, which makes me look so much older than I am. For this reason, I cannot stand putting it under my eyes!
So I guess I’m in the middle – I love it for spot concealing and I hate it as an under eye concealer.
A lot of people like to compare the Maybelline FitMe Concealer to the NARS one, but I personally think they’re pretty different. The formula is quite different – the NARS one is thick and dry, whereas the Maybelline one is thinner and more liquid-y I suppose. I like the Maybelline one because of this reason – it’s more hydrating under the eyes and that means it doesn’t settle into fine lines or make the under eyes look aged. However, it definitely has less coverage than the NARS concealer because of the difference in formula. The finish is similar, but overall less drying. Personally, I wouldn’t call these a dupe because the formula is so different. Having said that, I do love the Maybelline FitMe as a good everyday under eye concealer – it’s quick, easy to use, blends beautifully and seamlessly into the skin. I don’t really like this as a spot concealer though. My shade in this concealer is 20 Sand.
