Gigi Hadid x Maybelline Collection

Hi guys!

Today I will be reviewing the Gigi Hadid x Maybelline Collection that launched in Australia earlier this December. This launch has been highly anticipated since Gigi released her products in the US. I went down to my local Priceline and bought some bits and pieces to try out. Now the full collection includes the Jetsetter palette, multiple eye shadow palettes, lipliners, lipsticks, eyeliners, mascaras, tinted primers and strobe creams, but today, I will be reviewing only the lipsticks, eyeliners and strobe creams.

First, lets talk about the lipsticks. There are 6 different lipstick shades in this collection – 3 for the West Coast and 3 for the East Coast. Having a tanned complexion means that the nude shades from the East Coast collection didn’t suit my skin tone at all, so I didn’t even bother buying any of those because they were simply too light for my skin (except for the shade Erin, which straight up didn’t appeal to me). However, I did buy all 3 of the beautiful matte red shades from the West Coast collection and they are INCREDIBLE. They are so, so good, I cannot rave about how much I love these lipsticks! They are so pigmented, they are opaque and look great on the lips. They are a comfortable matte finish without being drying and the staying power is excellent. I think Maybelline and Gigi hit the nail on the head with the formula of these lipsticks. I like that she came out with 3 different reds because you’re sure to find something you love with these options. My favourite is Lani – a deep blue toned red.

Next, let’s talk about the eyeliners. So I picked up the liquid eyeliner and the gel eyeliner in black. Firstly, the liquid eyeliner was a HUGE miss for me, which sucks because I really thought I was going to love it. I had a few issues with it – namely the liner itself just wasn’t as opaque and black as I usually prefer/some of Maybelline’s liquid liners. Secondly, and this is the big one, I had a weird allergic reaction to it! This was so crazy and scary for me because I do not have sensitive skin and I’m not allergic to anything (that I know of). My skin is very tolerant and doesn’t react easily, but something in this product made my eyelids swell up, so I had to remove it straight away. I don’t know if this has happened to anyone else, but I’m steering clear of this liner for those reasons.

Top: Liquid Liner – multiple coats needed to achieve this degree of black. Bottom – gel liner, one swipe.

The gel liner however, I LOVE. It is possibly the creamiest, softest gel liner I have ever used in my life. It goes on so smoothly onto the eyes and it doesn’t budge once set. I love this stuff, it is awesome!

Next up, let’s talk about their strobe cream. There are two shades available, however I only bought the gold one, as pink highlighters don’t flatter my skin tone. This highlighter is a beautiful deep golden colour which looks great on my skin. My only issue with it is how subtle it is as a highlighter, you really need to build it up to get any reflectivity at all. Maybe that’s the look that Maybelline was going for, but I usually prefer my highlighters to be more high impact. However, I still enjoy using this in the summer because its lightweight and does give a nice hint of shimmer in the sunlight. I find the best way to apply this is with a duo-fibre brush to the cheekbones and I often go over it with a similar gold toned highlighter to intensify it. This product isn’t bad per se, but it didn’t blow my socks off. I think girls who like a subtle everyday highlight or who like to layer cream and powder highlights will like this one.

Gel like formula. The liquid strobe illuminator in Gold

So those are my thoughts on parts of the Gigi Hadid x Maybelline Collection! I think the only things I would recommend to everyone and their mums are their lipsticks and the gel liner. The formula is spot on for both. Let me know if you guys have tried anything from the collection and what your thoughts were on all the products!
