Best Facial Sunscreen

Hi all, I’ve got a review for you all today! Recently I ventured over to Mecca Cosmetica to buy some of their best selling sunscreen products. It’s summer in Australia and the sun is unforgiving here, so I thought I’d buy some good facial sunscreens to protect my skin from UV damage. I had heard good things about the Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF 30+ cream, which is supposed to be non greasy, quickly absorbed and light on the skin. Because Mecca sells a small travel friendly size, I thought I’d give that a go first. It retails for $15 AUD for 30mL and $38 for 100mL.

After trying this sunscreen, I have to say it is THE BEST facial sunscreen I have ever come across. It blows everything else out of the water! It is beautifully scented, not heavy or greasy on the skin, it absorbs quickly into my skin and doesn’t leave me looking oily in the slightest and to top it all off – it works as a great make up base too! It has skin-loving ingredients which help treat the skin at the same time as protect it, which I love. Because I have oily skin, I was very sceptical about this product and that is also the reason I tend to shy away from putting sunscreen on my face – because it makes my face look SO greasy and it is so heavy on the skin.

The sunscreen is light enough that it doesn’t leave a white cast in photos or even in person. I LOVE this stuff and will definitely be repurchasing the larger tube once I’m done with my travel sized one. I should also mention that if you are very prone to burning, they also sell one that is SPF 50+, but I can’t say I’ve tried that one yet.

I like to wear this as my moisturiser because it has good ingredients that hydrate my skin, but also provides sun protection. As I do have oily skin, if I were to wear a separate moisturiser underneath it would just be too much on my skin and I would potentially become oily throughout the day.

Since using this on my skin over the past two weeks or so, I have noticed my skin feels SO much softer and smoother, which I didn’t expect from a sunscreen at all!

Pros:

  • SPF 30+ with protection against UVA and UVB rays
  • Lightweight, non-greasy, quickly absorbed, doesn’t leave the face looking or feeling oily
  • Hydrating
  • No white cast
  • Contains hyaluronic acid, pomegranate extract and vitamin E
  • Works well on oily skin, would also be suited to dry or combination skin types.

Cons:

  • None, really!

Whilst I was at Mecca Cosmetica, I also picked up the Mecca Cosmetica Sunbrella Invisible Superspray SPF 50+. This is basically liquid sunscreen in a spray bottle. Again, this comes in a travel friendly size and a larger size. I decided to try the travel size first, which I bought for $19 (20mL), but this also comes in a larger size which is $42 (120mL). Again, this product was a hit for me – I really love it. I hate having to apply such thick, greasy sunscreen when I go out in the sun (unless I’m at the beach, that’s all part of the experience). For everyday wear, I want something light and non-greasy, and this is it. I sprayed this onto my body and it covered a good amount of area with the spray applicator. I then just rubbed it into my skin and it soaked up within seconds. It doesn’t leave a white cast at all and has a pleasant scent. It does leave a small amount of what I would call a ‘natural sheen’ to the skin, it’s not greasy but it does leave what feels like a very thin layer of oil on the skin. However, considering it is SPF 50+ and in a spray form, I don’t mind this, as it is still SO much lighter and less greasy than normal sunscreen.

As it does leave the small layer of oil on the skin, I don’t like this as much for my face. Having said that, when I’m at the beach or travelling in summer, I will likely spray this onto my face throughout the day to protect my skin because UV rays are what damage and age the skin the fastest. I’d rather look a bit shiny throughout the day (which can always be fixed with a bit of powder anyway) than look 10 years older than what I am.

Pros:

  • Convenient spray bottle
  • SPF 50+
  • Lightweight
  • Clear, absorbs quickly
  • 4h water resistant

Cons:

  • Leaves a very slight oily sheen to the skin (very minor)
  • Should not spray directly onto the face as it can easily get into your eyes/mouth

Overall, both these products are big hits for me! I had never tried anything by Mecca Cosmetica’s own brand before, but I have to say I am SO impressed by them! Well done Mecca!

Love,

Mano xx
